Blackboard Learn Original View

What is it? 

Blackboard Learn is an application for online teaching, learning, community building, and knowledge sharing. You can use any model for teaching your course because Blackboard Learn is open, flexible, and centered on student achievement.

Strategy:

The Original Course View includes all of the traditional workflows and depth of functions Blackboard Learn is known for.

You can easily navigate, provide content, edit items, and change options that affect how users interact with the interface.

Blackboard Learn Ultra View

What is it? 

Blackboard Learning Management System is for online teaching, learning, community building, and knowledge sharing.  In the Ultra Course View, you have simplified workflows, a modern look and feel, and a fully responsive interface on all devices.  

Strategy:

Blackboard has committed to supporting the Original Course View through the end of 2023. UTHSC has begun the process to prepare for the transition from Learn Original View to Learn Ultra View.

Respondus 4.0 and Lockdown Browser – Blackboard

What is it? 

Respondus 4.0® is a tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard Learning Management System. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment.

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. Students are unable to access other applications or search the internet for answers during an exam.

Strategy:

LockDown Browser prevents students from cheating on the computer itself, while the instructor watches students during the exam.

Blackboard Ally

What is it? 

Ally is a tool that integrates with Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) to provide insight into your institution's accessibility. It helps faculty improve the accessibility of course documents. With Ally, students view course documents in a variety of formats that support different learning needs.

Strategy:

Ally provides you detailed feedback and support to help you become an accessibility pro. Learn about accessibility issues, why they matter, and how to fix them. Green is the goal!

Scores range from Low to Perfect. The higher the score the fewer the issues.

  • Low (0-33%): Needs help! There are severe accessibility issues.
  • Medium (34-66%): A little better. The file is somewhat accessible and needs improvement.
  • High (67-99%): Almost there. The file is accessible, but more improvements are possible.
  • Perfect (100%): Perfect! Ally didn't identify any accessibility issues, but further improvements may still be possible.

What is it?

What is it? 

Poll Everywhere is a hybrid work solution that enables audience engagement through live, inclusive conversations across organizations. Whether it’s remote meetings, in-person events, or hybrid workspaces, Poll Everywhere gives your audience a voice and delivers authentic feedback at scale.

Strategy:

  • Quickly assess student comprehension of topics
  • Improve engagement through real-time participation
  • Use polling as a formative assessment tool

My Mediasite

What is it? 

My Mediasite allows UTHSC faculty, staff, and students to capture, publish, manage, and share original videos directly from their computer

Strategy:

  • Content is available on demand anywhere over the internet.
  • My Mediasite is accessible within Blackboard making it more convenient to add videos to courses.
  • Faculty can create repositories of educational lectures in a secure, central location.
  • My Mediasite tools support creating interactive videos that promote active learning and knowledge retention.
  • Students can view content at their own pace.
  • Users can upload videos in a variety of formats.

NameCoach

What is it? 

NameCoach is a user-friendly recording and playback tool that enables students and instructors in a course to voice-record their names so that course members can hear how names are pronounced. 

Strategy:

Students can record their names and specify their personal gender pronouns using a computer, mobile device, or phone.

Accurate audio name pronunciations in the tools you use every day, to promote inclusion, belonging, and rapport in every interaction.

Adobe Creative Cloud

What is it?

Adobe Creative Cloud provides apps, web services, and resources for all your creative projects — photography, graphic design, video editing, UX design, drawing and painting, social media, and more.

Strategy:

Creative Cloud gives you access to all our desktop and mobile apps, plus step-by-step tutorials to get you up to speed. Just open an app, watch a tutorial, and get started.

Connect content and data and introduce new technologies that democratize creativity, shape the next generation of storytelling, and inspire entirely new categories of learning.

Digital Measures

What is it?

Digital Measures is UTHSC’s web-based faculty activity reporting system that allows faculty to track their teaching, research, clinical care, service activities, and accomplishments.

Strategy:

Digital Measures will be a central place for you to record information that can be used for your:

  • Annual review
  • Enhanced reviews: Promotion, tenure, post-tenure
  • NIH or other Biosketches
  • UTHSC formatted CV as well as customized CVs
  • Faculty web profile

Your department, the college, and the university can also use the data to:

  • publicize faculty accomplishments,
  • generate department and college reports,
  • assist with accreditation, and
  • generate other custom and ad hoc reports

EndNote

What is it?

EndNote is a reference management software that helps users manage writing projects and scholarly papers. EndNote works with Microsoft Word to format and insert citations and reference lists in papers, as well as to build personal citation databases.

Strategy:

Use EndNote to save and organize your references, insert and format citations and bibliographies, and to search library databases.

EndNote Desktop
EndNote 20 available for free – download it and save to your computer. 

EndNote Online is the online component of EndNote. Use it to:

  • access your collection of references from any computer with Internet access.

You can also:

  • search databases from it
  • export references from library databases to it
  • import saved references
  • sync your desktop Endnote collection and your EndNote Online collection.

Flip

What is it? 

Flip is video discussion platform where a user poses a question and students respond with specific videos.

Strategy:

Flip gives faculty and students the opportunity to develop voice and to learn how to present themselves online. Repeated experience using Flip increases their feelings of social connectedness and improves academic performance.

It’s succinct, authentic and fun! Students can share ideas and learn from each other. Flip gives people a way to participate and become engaged with real voices and actual face-to-face interaction.

Office 365

What is it? 

UTHSC subscribes to Microsoft Office 365. As a result, faculty, staff, and students have access to a suite of helpful productivity tools to facilitate learning activity, engage learners, organize work, and collaborate with others. 

Office 365 tools include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sway, Forms, Whiteboard, and more.. 

Strategy:

  • Creating and Collaborating
  • Interacting and Engaging
  • Organizing and Sharing 

Students can also use these tools to create class projects and presentations, organize class notes, and manage their daily schedules.

What is it?

Qualtrics

What is it?

Qualtrics is a powerful online survey tool that allows one to build surveys, distribute surveys and analyze responses from one convenient online location.

Strategy:

Qualtrics enables you to do surveys, feedback and polls using a variety of distribution means. Results can be viewed in reports and can be downloaded.

Use Qualtrics at every stage of the education journey to help you design experiences, identify and address root causes to improve outcomes, and take action to improve staff and student engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

YouTube

What is it? 

YouTube is a video sharing service where users can watch, like, share, comment and upload their own videos.

Strategy: 

Embed and link videos from YouTube.

  • Copyright statement from the YouTube website.
  • To embed a YouTube video: Click the button of "Share" from the video page and get the video link or the embedding code. If the video has embedding enabled, you're free to embed it.
  • To cite a YouTube video in the APA Style:
    User name. (year, month, day). Title of video [video file]. Retrieved from https://xxxx

Zoom

What is it?

Zoom is a communications platform that allows users to connect with video, audio, phone, and chat.

Strategy:

Zoom allows faculty, staff, and students to have interaction in real time from their computers and mobile devices.

The Zoom recording feature will allow you to save a session for future reference and/or send it to those who are unable to attend.
