The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) offers a number of professional development events including workshops and learning series throughout the academic year to assist with teaching and learning activity.

Online Resources

Magna Publications

UTHSC subscribes to “20 Minute Mentor”, a series of short videos related to effective teaching and learning practices and Magna Commons, longer online asynchronous workshops. Anyone with an email address can subscribe for free.

To register and log in to access the group subscription:

  1. Go to Enter information in the required fields > Submit. NOTE: if you get an error that your password does not match, skip down to the EXISTING USERS Section below
  2. Once successfully registered, you will see a screen "Thank you for completing your registration"
  3. Go to
  4. On the right side of the page, in the "Username or email address" box, enter the email address that you submitted in Step 1.
  5. Enter your password > Login
  6. On the My Account page > Join Team
  7. On the My Online Access page click the appropriate orange "Go to..." box for access

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

NCFDD provides a variety of virtual programs and resources including multi-week courses; core curriculum webinars; guest expert webinars; private discussion forums for peer-mentoring, problem solving, and moderated writing challenges; and access to NCFDD's extensive member library. Quality Matters

Quality Matters (QM) is geared towards those who teach online, either synchronously or asynchronously. This web site has resources provided at no cost to instructors who register with their email address. It includes workshops, documents, and rubrics to use in developing and running an online course.
