Services for Students with Disabilities

The scope of services and accommodation is determined by the documented needs of the student, specifically in relation to the curricular requirements of individual courses and to ensure equal access to educational experiences at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

A student with a documented disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, may be eligible for accommodations. A disability is recognized when a student has, is perceived to have, or has a history of an impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (e.g., learning, concentrating, reading).

Services and accommodation will only be provided with appropriate documentation, verified by a disability consultant. Once approved for services, students receive appropriate and reasonable accommodation which is based upon the nature of an individual’s disability and documented needs. Disability accommodation will be granted, provided they do not fundamentally alter the curriculum, academic standards, or essential elements of the program, service, or activity.
