Dr. Vickie Porter joined The University of Tennessee Health Science Center as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing in August 2024. Her professional nursing experience includes medical-surgical, population/community health, cardiac stepdown, and geriatric. Dr. Porter earned her Associate of Science in Nursing from Arkansas State University and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Graceland University. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Arkansas State University as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Capella University.
Dr. Porter currently teaches as an additional instructor in undergraduate population health and graduate advanced health assessment. Dr. Porter has a passion for community/population health of marginalized and underserved populations. She has provided care to the evacuees affected by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana (2005) and Hurricane Gustav in Memphis (2008). She helped to establish points of distribution (PODs) in the Memphis region for COVID-19 vaccines. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Academic Honor Society, the Greater Memphis Area Advanced Practice Nurses, and the Association of Public Health Nurses. She serves on the UT Health Science Center Nominating Committee.
