Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Paton joined the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing in 2016 and is currently an Associate Professor for the Acute and Tertiary Care Department in the College of Nursing and the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. The director role is a joint position with ULPS, the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing, and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Paton received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois in 1990 and her BSN from the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing in 1992. She then went on to earn an MSN from Delta State University with a concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She achieved certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In 2017, she obtained a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a concentration as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner in both primary and acute care. She is also a Certified Pediatric Nurse and Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse.  Dr. Paton continues her clinical practice with the Division of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urgent Care at Le Bonheur.

Dr. Paton is active in local and national organizations including the Emergency Nurses Association, American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She has given lectures on various pediatric topics both locally and nationally for more than 20 years. In addition, she has published several articles related to pediatric emergency medicine and surgery in peer-reviewed journals, regularly participates in clinical research projects, and is very active in bringing evidence-based practice to the bedside.
