Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Christie Manasco joined the University of Tennessee (UT) Health Science Center’s College of Nursing faculty as an assistant professor in July 2020 and was named Assistant Dean of Student Affairs on July 1, 2024. Dr. Manasco received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1993, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Union University in 2003, and a PhD in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University in 2017.  The focus of her dissertation research was pre-briefing in undergraduate nursing education.

Before joining the college, Dr. Manasco was Assistant Dean of Nursing/Clinical Professor at the University of Memphis Lambuth, Loewenberg College of Nursing, where she was instrumental in leading and developing the first public BSN program in Jackson, TN. She also served as Director of Undergraduate Education for the Center of Excellence in Healthcare/Assistant Professor in the Union University School of Nursing. In that role, she helped establish the simulation program and integrate simulation into the undergraduate nursing program. Dr. Manasco further refined her health care simulation expertise through her role as Clinical Educator/Manager of Academic Nursing for CAE Healthcare (formerly METI). Dr. Manasco has taught and presented regionally and nationally on using human patient simulation to facilitate learning in nursing and health care education.

Dr. Manasco has 30 years of experience as a registered nurse. Her practice areas have included medical-surgical, home health, oncology, palliative care, and hospice nursing. Dr. Manasco currently practices as a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) for West Tennessee Healthcare. 

Dr. Manasco's current role at the UT Health Science Center combines the two areas about which she is most passionate: nursing education and health equity. She is involved in several grant-funded projects aimed at improving health and reducing disparities in rural and underserved communities, including a rural and underserved micro-credentialing program for undergraduate students. She also serves as the Project Director for Training and Education to Advance Critical Health Equity Readiness Using Simulation (TEACH US), a grant-funded program that uses simulation-based learning to prepare nursing students to efficiently address health equity for rural and underserved populations.

Dr. Manasco is a two-time recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty (2014, 2022). In 2023, she was the recipient of the Nursing Excellence Award by the Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA). She is actively involved in several nursing organizations including the TNA, where she serves as the Director of Education and President of District 6.
