Dr. Farrell joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in January 2006, as an Instructor in the BSN program. She has more than 35 years of experience as a nurse, predominantly in pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She also has experience in clinical nursing administration, critical care, and staff development.
Dr. Farrell has been a nurse educator for 18 years, serving on the faculty of the Methodist School of Nursing where she taught pediatric and adult health nursing courses. She also served as a clinical development specialist for Methodist-Le Bonheur Healthcare. Her teaching responsibilities at UTHSC include didactic and clinical for Introduction to Professional Practice and Maternal Child Health. She also assists with clinical practicum for the internship and works in the skills lab and simulation. Dr. Farrell assists with clinical coordination for the college organizing clinical sites including the Dedicated Educational Unit at Le Bonheur.
A native of Memphis, she received her BSN from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and her MSN from Union University, Germantown campus, with a concentration in nursing education. Dr. Farrell earned her PhD in Nursing Science from UTHSC. She is involved with the local chapter of the Society of Pediatric Nursing, having served on the chapter development committee and now the educational committee. Dr. Farrell also serves on the Mid-South Association for Nursing Professional Development-MSANPD local board.D
