Certified Administrative Professional Exam
UT policy HR0465, Salary Increase for Passing the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Exam outlines provisions for non-exempt employees who perform clerical-secretarial or clerical-management duties to earn a nine percent salary increase upon passing the CAP exam. Please see the list of eligible job titles.
The exam is administered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) twice per year. The purpose is to help administrative professionals become more knowledgeable and informed regarding best practices in the workplace and in the profession. In addition to CAP, the Organizational Management (CAP-OM) and Technology Applications (CAP-TA) specialties are also being offered for those who desire to advance in these areas. Exam Structure
The CAP exam is a one-part, 350-question test administered for 4.5 hours on the testing dates. Topics covered include:
- Communication
- Organization and Planning
- Information Distribution
- Records Management
- Human Resources
- Document Production
- Financial Functions
- Physical and Information Resources

Career Development Fund
