Julian Piwowar - new hire!

As of October 10, Julian Piwowar has joined the AFSA team as the Communications / Marketing Coordinator. Julian recently moved to Memphis from Chicago, and his family roots are Polish (both of his parents were born in Poland). Fun fact: his last name means “Brewer” in Polish!

In his role, Julian will be keeping the AFSA website up to date and free of technical issues, designing, planning, and implementing social media campaigns, creating, and updating electronic newsletters, print material, and even the Kudos Callouts like this very one that you’re reading right now! Julian is ready to provide a helping hand whenever you’ve got media to make and to help you see those projects through every step of the way. 

Before coming to UTHSC, Julian was a student. Julian recently graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Prior to that he obtained an Associate’s degree at Harper College. His love for communication led to him creating and hosting his very own automotive radio show, participating in the campus newsletter and interning at a Chicago real-estate startup. 

Julian says that what he enjoys most about working with UTHSC students, faculty, and staff is his ability to be part of the amazing support system. Julian is appreciative of the amazing support he has already received in his short time at UTHSC and wants to be able to take this kindness and pass it on to others. 

Julian is very interested in music, both listening to and creating it. He plays guitar and would like to join a band as the lead vocalist/guitar player/songwriter (although, he says there’s some work to be done for his singing skills!). His favorite bands include Pink Floyd, The Beatles, David Bowie, Tame Impala, Crumb, and Oasis. His favorite song of all time is “Time” by Pink Floyd. Julian is also a fan of individual sports having participated in swimming, tennis, archery, and boxing. His life motto is “How will you know if you don’t try?”
