Committee on Academic and Student Affairs (CASA)
PURPOSE: The Committee on Academic and Student Affairs (CASA) is a standing campus-level committee with responsibility for the review and recommend to the Vice Chancellor for Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs of all campus level policies related to students and academic affairs and for the dissemination of materials relevant to academic and student issues and compliance.
MEETINGS: Typically, CASA meets monthly. When there is urgent business to come before the committee, a second monthly meeting may be scheduled.
VOTING MEMBERSHIP: The voting membership of the committee includes the academic and student affairs deans from each of the six colleges (or their designee) for a total of 2 votes from each college; the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management; the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success, and the Faculty Senate representative.
NON-VOTING (AD HOC) MEMBERSHIP: Given the breadth of concerns of the committee, regular non-voting members of CASA include the Executive Vice Chancellor, Senior Vice Chancellor of Finance and Operations, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services, and the leadership of relevant AFSA units including Enrollment Management (Admissions, Financial Aid), International Affairs, General Education Building, Teaching and Learning Center, Student Academic Support Services and Inclusion, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Health Sciences Library, Office of Equity and Diversity, Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation, and Student Life.
CHAIR: The chair of the committee is on a rotating basis among the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success.
VOTING: Voting shall be by voice or show of hands. A quorum shall be fifty percent (50%) of the voting members and a positive or negative action is decided by a simple majority of those members present.
TERMS: Indefinite
MEETINGS: 1st Tuesday of each month
STAFF SUPPORT: Office of the Vice Chancellor, Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs
REPORTING CHANNELS: CASA reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs through the Chairs of the committee.
UTHSC Faculty Affairs Work Group (FAWG)
PURPOSE: To provide administrative review of campus-wide processes, policies, and procedures related to faculty.
COMPOSITION:
- Senior college administrators appointed by the dean of their respective UTHSC colleges
- Designated representative of the Faculty Senate
- Vice Chancellor for Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs (or designee)
- Director of Faculty Affairs
TERMS: Indefinite
MEETINGS: 2nd Tuesday of each month
STAFF SUPPORT: Office of Faculty Affairs
REPORTING CHANNELS: Vice Chancellor, Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs
UTHSC Simulation Advisory Committee
PURPOSE: The UTHSC Simulation Advisory Committee will provide recommendations regarding simulation educational events at the Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation. This committee activities will include:
- formulating recommendations regarding educational simulation policies;
- reviewing and editing the CHIPS Simulation Template;
- providing input regarding Faculty Development programs and the implementation of development initiatives;
- serving as peer reviewers for simulation cases.
COMPOSITION:
- CHIPS Director of Education (Chair)
- CHIPS Director of Assessment and Research
- CHIPS Executive Director
- Representatives from each UTHSC college
- Representatives from community clinical partners
TERMS: Indefinite
MEETINGS: Every other month on a date established by group availability.

REPORTING CHANNELS: Committee members engage with members of their departments, learn about matters of interest/concern and bring this to the attention of CHIPS, as well as relay information from CHIPS to the department.
Standardized/Simulated Patient (SP) Advisory Committee
PURPOSE: To function as an advisory group to the Assistant Director of Education for SPs regarding the future direction of the CHIPS SP Program. A coordinated network of representatives who provide advice, promote best practices, identify opportunities for collaboration and improvement. A mechanism and opportunity for faculty and SPs to give direct input and guidance, as well as as a forum to discuss key decisions and implications.

- CHIPS SP Trainers
- Two representatives from each college
TERMS: Indefinite
MEETINGS: As needed, usually once per semester

REPORTING CHANNELS: Advisors engage with members of their departments, learn about matters of interest/concern and bring this to the attention of CHIPS, as well as relay information from CHIPS to the department.
Student Government Association Executive Council
COMPOSITION:
The structure of the SGAEC including specific responsibilities, duties and purposes is set forth in the SGAEC Constitution.
Students in each college elect officers to the college Student Government Association. These organizations represent student interests within the colleges and with the college administrations.
- Presidents of each UT Health Science Center college Student Government Association
- President of the Memphis branch of the College of Social Work
- President of the SGAEC is rotated annually among each college and constitutes an additional representative
- The President of the SGAEC serves on the Chancellor’s Advisory Cabinet and the Roundtable
