COACHE Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey
UTHSC is participating in the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) faculty job satisfaction survey, operated by the Harvard Graduate School of Education, for the first time in spring 2022. The COACHE survey collects data on a range of indicators of faculty job satisfaction. The results can be benchmarked against peer institutions.
The survey evaluates faculty members’ satisfaction with, agreement about, importance of, clarity of, or frequency of items in the following thematic categories:
- Nature of Work: Research, Service, and Teaching
- Resources and Support
- Interdisciplinary Work, Collaboration, and Mentoring
- Tenure and Promotion
- Institutional Leadership
- Shared Governance
- Departmental Engagement, Quality, and Collegiality
- Appreciation and Recognition
- Retention and Negotiation
- Diversity and Inclusion

Survey Guidelines
- Eligible participants include all regular tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track faculty members that are at or above 75% full time employment.
- To ensure confidentiality, UTHSC does not receive data linked to names or e-mail addresses.
- Dr. Judith Nyabando, Director of Institutional Research and UTHSC Chief Data Officer is the only person with access to record-level data from the survey. Record-level data does not include names and email addresses.
- Once transferred to UTHSC, data will be stored on a secure UTHSC server. Data security will be managed by IT in the same manner as other servers holding sensitive campus data.
- Only survey results with data aggregated in cells of five respondents or more, so that individual faculty and individual departments cannot be identified in any way, will be disseminated.
