Academic Programs

PharmD
The Doctor of Pharmacy program prepares pharmacists to become part of today’s patient-centered health care team. As the entry level degree into the profession, students are provided a foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to enter a variety pharmacy practice settings as experts in the safe and effective use of medications.
PhD

The Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences program offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in medicinal chemistry, bioanaylsis, pharmaceutics, and pharmacometrics. This degree is granted as a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences through the College of Graduate Health Sciences.

PharmD/PhD

The PharmD/PhD Dual Degree program combines the existing PharmD and PhD programs currently based in the College of Pharmacy and the College of Graduate Health Sciences, respectively. Students accepted into the program may choose to pursue a PharmD degree and a PhD in either Health Outcomes and Policy Research or Pharmaceutical Sciences

This innovative program for highly qualified applicants is designed to reduce the total time needed for completion while maintaining the high standards for both programs individually. It is intended to increase the number of highly trained clinician-researchers that can operate at the interface of basic research and clinical care to facilitate a faster translation of medical innovations into benefits for patients.

PharmD/MBA
Become competitive in today’s healthcare arena by combining your clinical pharmacy knowledge with a professional business education. Together, the UTHSC College of Pharmacy and University of Memphis Fogelman College of Business and Economics give students the opportunity to gain a competitive edge through the PharmD/MBA program.
PharmD/MPH
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy and The University of Memphis School of Public Health have established a dual degree program that allows students to jointly earn the Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Masters of Public Health (MPH).
PharmD/MHIIM
Health Informatics and Information Management is one of the fastest growing professions in the country. The UTHSC Colleges of Pharmacy and Health Professions have partnered to offer a dual degree to prepare students to work in this rapidly expanding area.
PharmD/MS-ICL
The UTHSC College of Pharmacy and the University of Memphis have formed a cooperative program that will enable professional students enrolled in the PharmD program at UTHSC to simultaneously earn a Master of Science (MS-ICL) degree in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership from the University of Memphis. 
Certificate in Nuclear Pharmacy
This certificate program provides 200 of the 700 hours required for certification by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The remaining 500 hours of experiential training can be acquired during nuclear pharmacy advanced practice experiences or by working as a pharmacy intern, enrolled in the PharmD program. 
LEAD Certificate
The Leadership Exploration and Ability Development (LEAD) certificate is a 16-credit hour, four-course certificate program in pharmacy health science leadership. The program includes specialty coursework in leadership; lean 6-sigma certification training; project development, design, implementation, and evaluation; entrepreneurship; finances; and education. Throughout the program, students will learn, practice, and refine their leadership, management, and entrepreneurial skills.
Certificate in HIIM

Student pharmacists interested in a Health Informatics and Information Management foundation can pursue a certificate rather than a degree. This certificate, offered in partnership with the UTHSC College of Health Professions, provides student pharmacists with the basic skills needed to practice in an electronic healthcare environment. 

Rural Health Certificate

The Rural Health Certificate is a 12.5-credit hour certificate program designed to prepare future pharmacists with the expertise to practice in diverse rural healthcare settings. Specialty coursework includes an in-depth examination of rural health disparities and its impact on population health; healthcare communication strategies and health literacy assessment tools; and theories, strategies, and models used to design and implement evidence-based health interventions in rural settings.
