Methodist University Hospital (MUH) is a partnership of two healthcare leaders, Methodist Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). Located in the medical center and formerly known as Methodist Central, MUH is a 617-bed facility and the principal adult private teaching hospital for UTHSC. Methodist University Hospital provides real-world experiences of managing medical problems in an efficient and effective institution.

MUH and UTHSC bring together research, medicine, and innovation. This partnership supports multidisciplinary collaboration among doctors and clinical team members, leading to more advanced medical care for patients.

Established by Dr. Eustace Semmes, Memphis' first neurosurgeon, in 1912, the Semmes-Murphey Clinic specializes in neurosurgery, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, Interventional pain and neuropyschology.  It is comprised of a team of doctors recognized both nationally and internationally.  

The Semmes-Murphey Clinic operates an outpatient surgery center.  There are three operating rooms, and the physicians operating at the center perform approximately 100 cases per month. The operations are outpatient surgeries. Lumbar discectomy, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, and carpal tunnel release are the most frequently performed interventions.

Regional One Health (ROH) was established in 1829, making it the oldest health system in Tennessee.  ROH is the the home of the Elvis Presley Trauma Center, the only Level 1 trauma center in the area and one of the busiest in the country. In addition, Regional One Health also includes several other Centers of Excellence in Burn, High-Risk Obstetrics, and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU).

ROH is the largest medical and surgical teaching site for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  More than half of Tennessee's doctors will receive some, if not all, of their training at ROH. The partnership between Regional One Health and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center includes the UT Regional One Physicians group, the largest teaching physician group of its kind in the Mid-South.

Baptist Memorial Hospital (BMH) - Memphis is the flagship hospital of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system.  The 80-acre campus includes the hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, Baptist Women’s Health CenterSpence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital, and Baptist Memorial Restorative Care Hospital, Baptist Heart Institute, and five (5) physicians’ office buildings. The Baptist mission is a three-fold ministry of healing, preaching, and teaching which is used to provide quality health care.

BMH is one of Tennessee's busiest hospitals with 65,000 emergency department visits and 12,000 surgeries each year. The hospital physicians are Mid-South transplant pioneers, performing the first area open heart surgery in 1960 and the first local heart transplant in 1985. A variety of subspecialty and ambulatory electives are available taught by volunteer faculty, many of whom have received teaching awards.

It is a major site for neurosurgical education, specifically in spinal deformity and spinal oncology. The hospital introduced Cyberknife technology to Memphis in 2011, and the residents are heavily exposed to this treatment technology while at this institution.

Established in 1952, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital is an integral part of the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system and a teaching affiliate for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. A new $340-million hospital building was built in December 2010 to accommodate the over 100,000 patients seen each year.

Named one of the nation's "Best Children's Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report for eight consecutive years, Le Bonheur is the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Mid-South.  Its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides the highest level of care for the region's critically ill newborns.  Le Bonheur has received many accolades of excellence over the years including: Top Children's Hospital in 2017 by the Leapfrog group for its safe patient care, Magnet status - one of only 7 percent of hospitals in the U.S. to have earned this honor for quality nursing care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and a three-star rating (the highest) by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for its Heart Institute.

Founded in 1922, the Memphis VA Medical Center (VAMC) is affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and is one of UTHSC's primary adult teaching hospitals.  It offers quality healthcare for the changing medical, surgical, and quality of life needs of the Mid-South men and women who so proudly served our nation.

For the 196,000 veterans from 53 counties in western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northwest Arkansas, the VAMC offers a variety of services for both physical and mental health needs.  New programs include those for traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicide prevention.

Memphis Regional Gamma Knife Center is the leading provider of radiosurgery in the Mid-South. Located on the campus of Methodist University Hospital, it provides an excellent noninvasive alternative to surgery in a variety of pathologies. Our center has treated over 3,000 patients and is one of the busiest centers in the United States.
