Obstetrics / Women’s Health Track
Residents can opt into either the low risk OB track or the higher risk OB track at the end of their PGY1 year.
Low Risk OB Track
- Will graduate with privileges for low risk OB care and vaginal deliveries
- Requirements:
- 80 vaginal deliveries
- 5 c-sections (primary surgeon or 1st assist)
- 5 continuity deliveries
Higher Risk OB Track (fellowship preparation)
- Will graduate with privileges for low risk OB care and vaginal deliveries; preparation to enter surgical OB fellowship.
- Requirements:
- 80 vaginal deliveries
- 10 c-sections (primary surgeon or 1st assist)
- 5 continuity deliveries
Residents will choose at least 2 of the electives listed below to meet the ACGME requirements of 400 hours of obstetric related care.
- Mother-Baby Elective during PGY2 year, with added prenatal clinic at Clinica Medicos
- Gynecology elective during the PGY 3 year
- Senior OB rotation with OBGYN service during the PGY3 year
- Elective with private community OBGYN
Additional electives to support learning and future practice
- Ultrasound requirement of at least 50 scans
- ·Obtain Nexplanon certification before graduation
- Maintain NRP certification (will need to recertify PGY3 year)
- Obtain ALSO instructor status
- OB Home call – additional OB call when on OB electives.
- i.e. Home call for OB Saturday 6 am – Sunday 5:30 pm
- Presents to hospital once patient in active labor and assumes care
