Physiologic Acoustics Lab

The Physiologic Acoustics Laboratory is housed at the UT Conference Center. The laboratory is equipped for both acoustic and electro-acoustic measures of the human auditory system including: 
  • Wideband Power Reflectance
  • Otoacoustic Emissions
  • Auditory Brainstem Response
  • Frequency-Following Response 
Both Au.D.-level and undergraduate students frequently rotate through the laboratory. The primary goal of the research undertaken in the Physiologic Acoustics Laboratory is to facilitate objective, non-invasive diagnosis of auditory-system dysfunction. Such diagnosis is especially important among patient populations who are unable to participate in traditional behavioral audiometry. 


  • Origin of high-frequency variability in wideband power reflectance
  • Influence of the auditory efferent system on cochlear processing, assayed using otoacoustic emissions
  • Changes in middle-ear mechanics stemming from middle-ear effusion
