Velvet Buehler has been with UT since 1985. She holds dual certification in Audiology
and Speech-Language Pathology. Ms. Buehler specializes in providing aural-habilitation
services to children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. She has supervised
practicum for ASP graduate students in the areas of aural-habilitation, parent counseling
and education, pediatric audiology and central auditory processing. Ms. Buehler teaches
the Aural Rehabilitation Course, Clinical Education Seminars, and lectures in classes
on the above topics. She serves on two cochlear implant teams providing pre/post cochlear
implant evaluations and treatment. Ms. Buehler also provides in-services and consultations
to professionals. She has presented at numerous regional and national conferences
including American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), Alexander Graham Bell
Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, (AGBell), Early Hearing Detection and
Intervention (EHDI), Tennessee Association of Speech Pathologists (TAASLP),and many
other regional and state association conferences. She is a certified trainer for the
National Educators of Children with Cochlear Implants. Ms. Buehler served for 6 years
as an ASHA steering committee member for Division 9: Hearing and Hearing Disorders
in Childhood. She is an ASHA member, a Step Mentor and Peer Reviewer for ASHA Publications
and Conferences. She is also a member of AGBell and TAASLP. Currently, Ms. Buehler
serves as the Chair of the Licensure Board for Communication Disorders and Sciences
for the state of Tennessee.
