- The 2023 Frank Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in health care and how it could be used to improve patient outcomes.
Grants/Publications
- Som Biswas, MD, a Radiology fellow at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and UT Health Science Center published an article, “ChatGPT and the Future of Medical Writing” written entirely by ChatGPT with editing from Dr. Biswas.
- Kenneth Ataga, MD, Director of the Center for Sickle Cell Disease at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), was recently awarded $3.2 million from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for a project that enlists artificial intelligence in the fight against sickle cell disease.
- Yan Cui, PhD, associate professor in Genetics, Genomics, and Informatics received a $1.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute for a study titled “Algorithm-based prevention and reduction of cancer health disparity arising from data inequality.”
- Siamak Yousefi, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Genetics, Genomics, and Informatics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, is the principal investigator on a $2.2 million award from the National Eye Institute to develop artificial intelligence (AI) to predict genetic risk of glaucoma.

- TLC Director Tom Laughner did a review of the book Robot-Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
- The UT Health Science Center Library held a Monday Morning Mentor session titled, "How Can I Prevent Plagiarism in the Artificial Intelligence Era?"
