Farewell from Chancellor Schwab

Faculty, Staff, Students,

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Peter Buckley to the UT Health Science Center, as he officially becomes our 11th Chancellor tomorrow, February 1.

Chancellor Buckley is truly the right person at the right time. I have had the pleasure of knowing Peter for over 20 years. We served as department chairs together at what was then known as the Medical University of Georgia. He is a veteran administrator, having served as the Dean of Medicine and Vice President of two major Institutions – the Medical University of Georgia (now Augusta University) and Virginia Commonwealth University. He brings a wealth of experience, including an innovative and open approach to leadership. You will be impressed.

Finally, I want to thank the entire UTHSC community for the pleasure I have had serving as Chancellor for the last 12.5 years. We have accomplished much together, but there is still plenty to do. I am certain that UTHSC, under the leadership of Chancellor Buckley, will be continue to achieve great things.

I look forward to my return to the faculty and the privilege of serving as Chancellor Emeritus. My wife, Carol, and I will be on campus often and we look forward to working with you in our faculty roles.
