“Life's most persistent and urgent question is,
'What are you doing for others?'”— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear Colleagues-Friends,
This Saturday, January 13, students, trainees, staff, and faculty at all UT Health Science Center locations will begin a three-day weekend that includes the national holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 15. UT Health Science Center offices will be closed on Monday, January 15.
In the spirit of this national recognition, we encourage everyone to reflect on the meaning of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and find ways to engage with our respective communities (Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville) in service and support as we honor Dr. King’s legacy. We are called by Dr. King in his 1957 speech in Montgomery, Alabama, where he said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'”
We invite each of you to join us and get involved in supporting our communities and organizations that will commemorate Dr. King. Here are some volunteer opportunities across the state:

- Nashville: https://mlkdaynashville.com/
- Chattanooga: MLK Day of Service (chattanooga.gov)
