The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, is seeking a PhD, MD, or PharmD internal candidate, for the position of Vice Chair for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The position is domiciled on the Health Science Center campus located in Memphis, TN. This is an internal search open to UT faculty only.

The position of IRB Vice Chair provides support in leading the IRB to ensure thorough, ethical, and consistent review of each human subject research project. In addition, this position provides regulatory assistance to the University, client institutions, the Board, and the IRB staff to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and University policies and procedures. To be selected, the candidate must have sufficient experience serving on an Institutional Review Board.

1. Direct the proceedings of the full IRB committee as alternate Chair at least once a month, and compose meeting minutes for new full board applications after directing the proceedings of the full IRB committee.
2. Establish and enforce UTHSC IRB policies and standards, as well as all applicable state and federal rules, regulations and statutes concerning human subject protection. As a primary representative of IRB decisions, the Vice Chair has authority over all IRB policies and procedures.
3. Represent the IRB in discussions with other segments of the organization.
4. Conduct review of proposals submitted for expedited review or exempt status.
5. Enforce corrective actions for violations
