E-Verify Employment Verification System

The Office of Human Resources will launch the E-Verify system for the entire campus effective January 1, 2012.

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.

Currently, the Department of Homeland Security under the Immigration Reform and Control Act only requires an employer to verify a person’s identity and their legal right to work in the United States using the form I-9. The E-Verify system will act as a companion to this form.

A new Federal requirement states that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center as an employer with federal contracts or subcontracts is now required to use E-Verify to determine the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center will implement E-Verify for the entire workforce, including all faculty, staff, temporary and student employees.
