Transplant Surgery Fellowship

The Methodist Transplant Institute and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center are pleased to offer training in certification in Abdominal Transplant Surgery. This transplantation fellowship program fulfills the requirements established by the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) for individuals to stand as the approved abdominal transplant surgeon for any program.

The Methodist Transplant Institute at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship offers a two year training program accredited through the American Society of Transplant Surgery. In conjunction with Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital our surgeons perform more than 280 transplants per year and our program is ranked among the nation’s top ten transplant programs in terms of liver volume.

In addition to transplant cases, surgical fellows will have the opportunity to be involved in vascular access cases and a robust hepatobiliary practice. Trainees will also perform living donor nephrectomies, averaging about 30 per year, as well as have the opportunity to train in our live liver donor program. We also have available a Transplant Research Institute, and our fellows have the opportunity for basic or clinical science research.
