The mission of the Department of Preventive Medicine is to improve human health through research, education, and public service. The Department’s mission is integrated with the broader mission of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, to bring the benefits of the health science to the citizens of Tennessee and beyond through education, research, clinical care, and public service.

The Department of Preventive Medicine plays a critical role in advancing the University of Tennessee Health Science Center's educational mission by offering a Masters of Epidemiology and a Certificate in Clinical Investigation and also by contributing to the Undergraduate Medical School Curriculum.

Our faculty are involved in a wide range of ongoing studies and also provide support facilities for Clinical Trials. For content specific research areas see: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or see this list of Ongoing Studies.
