Research Interests

Dr. Hofmann joined UTHSC in 1991.  Her NIH-funded research focused on short and long-term modification of various myocardial proteins through phosphorylation and their impact on cardiac survival following ischemia and myocardial function of the hypertrophied heart.  The main body of her work was on the molecular mechanisms by which ser/thr phosphatases, such as PP1 and PP2a, are modified/regulated and the role of phosphatases in altering myocardial function and survival. 

In 2008 Dr Hofmann became the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in the College of Medicine.  This was followed by a series of leadership roles and duties including Special Assistant to the Chancellor, Principle Investigator for a ~$3 million grant for interdisciplinary simulation in health care training awarded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN, Sr Associate Vice Chancellor of Research, and Interim Chair of multiple departments in the College of Medicine.  Currently, she is a Professor and Senior Executive Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in the College of Medicine.
