Campus Safety
Institutional Security and Personal Safety Measures
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), as the sponsoring institution,
maintains a comprehensive and systematically documented approach to security and personal
safety for all students, faculty, and staff, including those within the Physician
Assistant (PA) Program. These measures are administered through UTHSC Campus Police
and are consistently applied across all locations where didactic and supervised clinical
practice experiences (SCPEs) occur.

UTHSC employs a multi-layered campus safety infrastructure that includes:
Certified law enforcement personnel provide continuous patrol, rapid response, and incident management across campus properties.
- Campus-wide emergency notification system (text, email, and voice alerts)
- Emergency call boxes strategically located across campus grounds
- Badge-restricted entry to academic buildings and clinical training facilities
- After-hours access monitoring
On-demand safety escorts for students, faculty, and staff during evening or high-risk hours
- Video surveillance systems across campus buildings and parking areas
- Well-lit pathways, secured parking areas, and routine safety audits
Safety Training and Education:
- Active threat response training
- Personal safety awareness programs
Environmental Safety Measures:
These standards are designed to ensure that all students, with or without reasonable accommodation, possess the essential abilities required to successfully complete the program and practice as a physician assistant.
