Applicants who have not completed 3 years’ training in an ACGME-accredited, pediatric residency program (prior to anticipated matriculation in a subspecialty fellowship program) are advised that the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) has limited eligibility to sit for the sub-board certifying examination in pediatric endocrinology to five years after the completion of fellowship training (in addition to board certification in general pediatrics and other requirements). Consequently, those who pursue fellowship training prior to general residency training (out of sequence) will have limited opportunities to achieve sub-board certification in pediatric endocrinology. Details of ABP policies can be reviewed online.
