Laboratory Resources
The laboratory is located at UTHSC Translational Sciences Research Building, a two-years
old building that houses up to 80 researchers and 150 staff members, the equivalent
of 78 typical 500-square-foot labs, a Molecular Resource Center to serve the entire
UT system, an animal facility and meeting rooms. The 125,000-square-foot research
facility houses principal investigators and their staffs from different medical fields
encouraging interaction among researchers across disciplines.
The Research Transplant Laboratory Equipment
- Agilent 2100 Genetic Analyzer, Applied Biosystems 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System, NanoDrop2000 (Thermo Scientific), Qubit, refrigerated centrifuges, ultracentrifuges, -20ºC and -80 ºC freezers, among others.
- Linux servers and Dell PowerVault RAID storage system (n = 4) for genomic analysis are maintained in the main UTHSC machine room in the nearby Lamar Alexander Building.
Institutional Core Facilities
There are seven institutionally supported and subsidized core facilities located on the UTHSC campus. Institutional core facilities serve investigators based at UTHSC, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, the Regional One Medical Center and the University of Memphis (the greater Memphis area), as well as several external customers from around the US and the world. The core facilities include:
- Flow Cytometry and Flow Sorting (FCCS) Core
- Research Histology
- Lab Animal Care Unit (LACU)
- Regional Biocontainment Laboratory
- Molecular Resource Center
- Molecular Bioinformatics
- Proteomics and Metabolomics Core (PMC)

Computers
Two laboratory servers, HP ProLiant DL380 G6 with two 2.40 GHz Intel Xeon E5530 processors each and 20 GB RAM, running CentOS Linux, serve the TRI lab. Through high-speed connections, these computers are linked to the EPFL network and internet with automated data back-up system on one of the EPFL servers is operational.
