Counseling

SASSI Counseling is now University Counseling Services (UCS) and is under University Health Services.

Their new website is currently being constructed and will be under UHS. Counselors are available to provide individual, group and crisis counseling for students, residents and fellows. To schedule an appointment either call 901.448.5056 or email coun@uthsc.edu.

Walk-In appointments are available for those in crisis during typical work hours. UCS is currently located in BB9 of the GEB.

After Hours Phone - Trained therapists can be reached at 901.690.2273 any evening and on weekends for mental health emergencies.

The office of University Counseling Services offers counselors that provide individual, group and crisis counseling for students, residents, and fellows.

  • Students, residents, and fellows can be seen for counseling for any issue. There is no issue too small or too large. 
  • University Counseling Services has trained and licensed counselors who are equipped to aid students in addressing challenging issues experienced while enrolled in school.
  • University Counseling Services is committed to maintaining a confidential, and nonjudgmental space for students, residents, and fellows so they can be successful in a stressful environment.
  • Counseling records, by law, are kept confidential and separate from educational records.
  • Students,  can schedule an appointment with a counselor Monday–Thursday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • In the event of a crisis, someone is available by phone after hours.
  • Students, residents, and fellows are eligible to receive unlimited sessions per academic year as needed.
  • A standard counseling session is 45-50 minutes in duration.
  • To maximize your time with your counselor, please come to your first session with the required documents completed. These documents can be emailed to the counselor prior to the first session with CONFIDENTIAL in subject line.

  • Personal Issues
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • EMDR
  • Biofeedback
  • Stress Management
  • Heart Math
  • Adjustment

If you are concerned about immediate self-harm or harm to someone else, emergency services should be accessed.
