Intramural Funding Opportunities and Resources

Temporary funding support for projects while full, outside support is being sought, and seed money for innovative, interdisciplinary, team research.

The Office of Research has re-envisioned the New Grant Support and Bridge Funding programs to better serve our faculty. These internal, intramural funding mechanisms will now be known as Finish Line Grants and Bridging Awards. These funds are designed to support faculty in their quest to become nationally competitive and secure extramural funding.

The intramural Finish Line Grant and Bridging Award program supports full-time UTHSC faculty members as they enhance their scholarly and research activities to increase the strength and competitiveness of a future proposal submission. Applications are considered for this internal, Office of Research managed, competition-based program if the submitted proposal is: 1) a previously submitted and unfunded grant application or 2) an expired grant, or unfunded renewal.

Bridging Award

Bridging Awards are available to UTHSC investigators whose renewal application for an expiring grant was not funded. It is intended to provide temporary, reduced support (up to $25K for up to 2 years) in order to retain key personnel and continue laboratory or research operations, while full-support is being sought from outside agencies.

Competitions are held in the spring, summer, and fall. Deadlines will be announced.

Finish Line Grant

Provides limited, interim funding (up to $20-$30K, depending on submitted grant type, for up to 2 years), to UTHSC investigators who have submitted a new grant that was scored but not funded. This funding mechanism allows investigators to continue research activities and gather additional data to strengthen the unfunded grant, in response to reviewer comments, for the subsequent submission.

Competitions are held in the spring, summer, and fall. Deadlines will be announced.
