Epilepsy Division

Epilepsy Division in the Department of Neurology at UTHSC College of Medicine provides an outstanding patient care, training to the next generation neurologists and clinical neurophysiologists, and innovative translational and clinical research. Our 7 core faculty members who are epilepsy fellowship trained and epilepsy board certified by ABPN subspecialty are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and compassionate care to the patients with seizure/ epilepsy disorder or unusual spells over 18 years old, in collaboration with hospital partners. UTHSC Epilepsy program is the only comprehensive epilepsy program in over 200 mile radius, serving mid-south region of West Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Our multidisciplinary team of epileptologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, nurse specialists, EEG technologists, and social workers provide the following clinical services:

Epilepsy Subspecialty Clinic at Baptist Hospital and Methodist Hospital
Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Baptist Hospital (Specialized in-patient unit for seizure diagnosis and treatment)
Neuromodulation therapy (VNS, RNS, and DBS)
EEG laboratory service
Continuous video EEG service in the hospital including ICU
Epilepsy presurgical evaluation
Neuroradiological images (MRI, PET, fMRI, and MEG)
Intracranial EEG evaluation
Functional Brain Mapping with Cortical Stimulation and Wada procedure

We provide a broad and hands-on educational experience to medical students, neurology residents, and clinical neurophysiology fellows in rigorous yet supportive and nurturing environment. Our faculty has involved in translational neuromodulation research and multiple clinical trials from pharmacological to device therapies.
