Continuing Education

The UT Department of Ophthalmology holds as an integral component of its mission not only the education of ophthalmologists in training, but also the ongoing education of practicing ophthalmologists. To fulfill this goal, the Department organizes and presents:

  • Didactic presentations of all subspecialty diagnoses, including weekly lectures and five Grand Rounds per month discussing individual patient care.
  • Periodic visiting professorships (6 to 8 per year), which provide instruction by ophthalmologists from beyond the UT Department of Ophthalmology.
  • Five Distinguished Visiting Professorships per year: the Montgomery, Kambara, Williford, Arnold and Ridley Distinguished Visiting Professorships. These are awarded to nationally recognized leaders in ophthalmology, who provide lectures attended by the UT Ophthalmology faculty as well as practicing ophthalmologists from the community and across the region.
  • Annual courses and professional meetings, including and the Clinical Update for the Practicing Ophthalmologist, our Annual Alumni and Residents Day Program, and the Memphis Eye Society Convention.

In addition, the University of Tennessee Department of Ophthalmology faculty participates in St. Jude-sponsored Continuing Medical Education activities locally and throughout the nation.
