Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Your safety is our top priority. UTHSC Campus Police is diligently monitoring crime in and around the City of Memphis which inevitably impacts our campus given where we are situated.
Vehicle-related crimes continue to be an ongoing issue and there have been recent incidents with vehicle thefts and burglaries on campus. Targeted vehicles include Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, and Infiniti models. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to park in well-lit areas if possible and never leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle.
Additionally, there have been other incidents in the last couple of days which call for extra vigilance, including an unprovoked assault on a faculty member while she exited the Regional One Health area and two students who were subjected to threats in the Monroe and Orleans area. In the latter case, the suspect was found and arrested.
As part of our ongoing efforts to manage these issues, UTHSC Campus Police will increase active patrolling of all areas of campus, specifically the parking lots and garages, along with strategic placement of plain-clothes officers in areas susceptible to such activity. As a reminder:
- UTHSC Campus Police is accessible 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, year-round and can be reached via phone at 901.448.4444, by utilizing the RAVE Guardian App, or from multiple emergency phone boxes/towers located throughout campus.
- UTHSC has invested significant resources for security enhancements over the past several years to include:
- Installation of 3,636 cameras
- 470 access-controlled doors
- 150 panic alarms strategically located throughout campus
- Safety Escorts are available from dusk until dawn for faculty, staff, and students requesting assistance to and from your vehicle or work location in the Medical District.
- Please call UTHSC Campus Police dispatch at 901.448.4444 to request a safety escort.
- Safety escorts are also provided for anyone in their last trimester of pregnancy or anyone with a temporary injury.

Our campus community is encouraged to be constantly aware of your surroundings and to contact UTHSC Campus Police if you see something suspicious or feel threatened in any way.
