HIPAA Privacy Training

Attention: Faculty, Staff, Students, Postdocs, and Residents

To ensure everyone is aware of his or her responsibilities under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s (UTHSC) workforce must undergo periodic HIPAA TRAINING. The workforce is defined as employees, volunteers, trainees, and other persons who conduct, in the performance of work for a covered entity, is under the direct control of such entity, whether or not they are paid by the covered entity.  

The course curriculum is designed to increase your awareness and knowledge of applicable laws and how they may affect your current job responsibilities. This on-line training is the official UTHSC-sanctioned training for HIPAA compliance purposes. The deadline for completing this training is April 30. If you are a new hire or newly enrolled student, you have 30 DAYS from your hire/enroll date to complete this training. Failure to complete this training by the deadline could result in suspension of your UT NetID, badge, and network access.

Enter your UT NetID and password.

UT NETID: If you do not know your UT NetID, search for yourself using UTHSC's online directory. Your NetID can be found to the right of your name.

To Complete your Curriculum:

  • Click the To Do tab to open your To-Do List.
  • Click the curriculum's Start button to open the Course.
  • Please make sure you click on the Exit button to close your browser.


You do not have to complete all of a course's learning activities in a single session. You can leave a course and then come back later to resume where you left off. 

Pre-exemption Assessment – Each course, except the Introduction, has a Pre-exemption Assessment that will allow a learner who chooses to take the assessment and scores 100% to obtain a completion without taking the course content. 

Post-Quiz – After viewing each course, except the Introduction, you will have to take a Post-Quiz. The default passing score of the Post-Quiz is 80%. If you do not pass the Post-Quiz, you will be required to retake the course.
