Applying for Medical Student Rotations in Chattanooga

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga offers rotations to University of Tennessee College of Medicine junior and senior students and visiting senior students outside the UT System.

Students at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis can elect to spend all their clinical rotations in Chattanooga. Chattanooga programs offer key core clerkships (Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Surgery), as well as 40+ required and elective senior rotations. All medical student rotations at the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga are comparable to those at the main campus in Memphis.

UT Student Scheduling

UT students may schedule junior and senior rotations in Chattanooga through the regular UTHSC computerized scheduling system in eMedley.  Questions should be addressed by contacting comsched@uthsc.edu in the UTHSC Office of Medical Education in Memphis.

Visiting Student Scheduling

Non-UT senior visiting medical students should apply for rotations at the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) application system sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  Non-UT senior medical students may apply for up to three four-week rotations from the 40+ senior elective rotations available at the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga Campus.  VSLO is utilized by all allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) schools in the U.S.  Most departments have agreed that non-UT visiting students must fit their requests into the block times established by the University of Tennessee for our own students.

For senior visiting student rotations in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, please first apply through the special online applications in the right-hand box.  This is a pre-screening application submitted in real time to the departments and should be sent in addition to your VSLO application. Please allow 7-10 business days for the department(s) to reply directly to your application via email.

Senior students from international medical schools may not apply for visiting rotations unless their school has a formal exchange program with UTHSC or an affiliation agreement between their school and UTHSC.

Observerships for medical students, physician assistants, or physicians are not available.
