Fellow Life
Training, Community, and Life in Memphis
Cardiology fellowship is demanding, but some of the most meaningful experiences happen outside the hospital. At UTHSC, our fellows build lifelong friendships while caring for a diverse patient population across four hospital systems, celebrating milestones together, and enjoying everything Memphis has to offer. We believe a supportive fellowship community is just as important as outstanding clinical training.

Life in Memphis
Memphis offers the amenities of a major metropolitan area with the convenience of affordable living, family-friendly neighborhoods, and short commutes. Fellows enjoy:
- Memphis Grizzlies (NBA), Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A Baseball), and Memphis 901 FC soccer
- Shelby Farms Park, Tom Lee Park, the Mississippi Riverfront, and the Shelby Farms Greenline
- Live music on Beale Street and annual events such as Memphis in May and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest
- A nationally recognized food scene featuring world-famous barbecue, locally owned restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and diverse international cuisine
- Attractions including the National Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, Graceland, and the Memphis Zoo
It’s a city that feels approachable, energetic, and full of character — a great backdrop for both training and life outside the hospital.
A Community That Grows Together
Fellows work side-by-side with faculty who are deeply invested in their success. Whether rounding on the wards, interpreting imaging studies, or collaborating on research, fellows benefit from an environment where teaching is prioritized and questions are welcomed. The program’s size allows for meaningful relationships, individualized guidance, and a sense of belonging that lasts well beyond graduation.

Celebrating Achievements
Each year, the division honors its graduating fellows with events that highlight their accomplishments, contributions, and growth. These celebrations bring together faculty, staff, families, and co-fellows to recognize the hard work and dedication that define the fellowship experience.

A Foundation for Your Future
Fellows leave UTHSC prepared for successful careers in academic medicine, advanced subspecialty training, or community practice. The combination of high-volume clinical exposure, research opportunities, and supportive mentorship ensures that graduates are confident, capable, and ready to lead in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
