Instructions for Totally Disabled and/or Senior Citizens Enrolling In Credit Courses

UTHSC provides options in accordance with statute TCA 49-3251. external link icon But, this statute does not apply to the College of Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy. Since additional academic programs may not allow students to audit courses, students should review the UTHSC Academic Bulletin for course auditing information and non-degree seeking student policies.

Senior Citizen Programs
Enrollment for audit or credit is limited according to space availability. To qualify for the "tuition reduction" in this program, participants may not register before the specific deadline for each semester. See the Academic Calendar for the official first day to register under these fee waiver programs. Prior to course selection, students must complete and return appropriate form.
Age Sixty (60) – Audit Only
Tennessee residents who will become age sixty (60) during the academic semester may AUDIT courses without paying tuition charges. These charges may include the following: maintenance fees, and program services fees. Regents Online Degree Program courses may not be audited.
Age Sixty-five (65) – Credit Course(s)
Tennessee residents who will become age sixty-five (65) before the academic semester may enroll in courses for CREDIT at the cost of $7.00 per credit, not to exceed $70 per semester. These charges include maintenance fees and program services fees. Fees not included in this fee waiver include, but are not limited to, UTHSC online program fees and materials fees for courses which require an additional fee.

 

Fee Waivers for Persons Who Are Totally and Permanently Disabled and Incapable of Work
Enrollment for audit or credit is limited according to space availability. To qualify for the "tuition reduction" in this program, participants must complete an application every year. Students may not be sponsored by a Vocational Rehabilitation program, and may not register before the specific deadline for each semester.
Totally and Permanently Disabled – Audit Only
Tennessee residents who are totally and permanently disabled, and who are incapacitated from working at an income producing occupation may AUDIT courses without paying tuition charges. These charges may include the following: maintenance fees and program services fees. Regents Online Degree Program courses may not be audited.
Totally and Permanently Disabled – Credit Course(s)
Tennessee residents who are totally and permanently disabled and incapacitated from working at an income producing occupation may enroll in courses for CREDIT at the cost of $7.00 per credit hour, not to exceed $70 per semester. These charges include maintenance fees and program services fees. Fees not included in this fee waiver include, but are not limited to, UTHSC online program fees, and materials fees for courses which require an additional fee.
