Getting Started
Research involving the handling of radioactive materials or radiation-producing equipment must be reviewed and approved by the UTHSC RSC.
This includes work with x-rays, lasers (Class 3B and 4), magnetic fields (e.g., MRI) and radioactive materials.
Overview of First Steps
- Prepare a protocol for review by the UTHSC Radiation Safety Committee (RSC). Protocols must be prepared and submitted on iMedRIS.
- Prepare and attach an Animal Radiation Form if research involving radiation will include the use of animals.
- Receive protocol approval from the RSC.
- Ensure personnel complete radiation safety training.
- Have the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) commission the area where machine-produced radiation or radioactive materials will be used.
