Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis is to improve the health of women in the Mid-South by offering state-of-the-art treatment with a patient-centered focus. We strive to train the next generation of physician leaders and investigators in our field who will possess a solid fund of evidence-based medical knowledge, exceptional clinical and surgical abilities, and the desire to provide compassionate, equitable healthcare to all.
Delivering Excellence
Some of our recent achievements include:
- The expansion of a new Gynecologic Oncology practice at Regional One Health on the main campus
- ACGME-accredited fellowships in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology
- Initiated the process for a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship
- Recognition as a High-Risk Obstetrics Center of Excellence
- Expansion and relocation of the Center for High-Risk Pregnancies (CHRP) center to the East campus
- Expansion of clinics: Menopause, Gynecology & Gynecology Oncology services to East campus, as well as training in HPV and Dysplasia with high-resolution Anoscopy (HRA), and Transgender Clinic
- Launching of the UTHSC Nurse-Midwifery school
- Expansion of Midwifery services in Labor and Delivery, East campus, OB triage, and Postpartum Care working collaboratively with our team
- Promoting innovative research opportunities amongst faculty and trainees to include monetary support for resident travel to national conferences
- The addition of weekly Preop, Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology conferences as well as the creation of a robust monthly simulation training schedule
- Department-supported Intuitive da Vinci System Training and Certification for our trainees
- Department-supported Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Training and Certification for our trainees
We will continue innovating to improve resident training and provide world-class patient care.
