Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Message from the Chair
Welcome to the UT Health Science Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
We are the fortunate heirs to a proud history of innovation, paradigm-changing research
and exceptional clinical care right here in the heart of downtown Memphis. Our charge
today is to push into new frontiers to further raise the bar in the Mid-South region.
Our roughly 40 faculty members across 8 divisions provide the full spectrum of expertise
in our field. Regional One Health is our clinical home directly adjacent to the UT
Health Science Center College of Medicine, and here our High-Risk Obstetrics Service
is recognized as a Center of Excellence. Historically considered our flagship Division
due to both the acuity of our patients and the high-quality clinical research conducted
within the group, the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division continues to develop nationally-recognized
leaders in the field. The complexity of our patient population provides a clinical
experience that is unparalleled. Our trainees have vast exposure to hypertensive disorders
of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, trauma, and other rich opportunities to learn
about the full breadth of the specialty. Our Complex Obstetric Surgery service offers
laparoscopic abdominal cerclage and expert operative care for placenta accreta spectrum.
Our MFM faculty are regularly recognized as elite teachers by the UT Health Science
Center medical students and OB/GYN residents while attracting fellows from amongst
the best candidates in the country.
We are privileged to have a robust Gynecologic Oncology service at our downtown campus
at Regional One Health and across town in collaboration with department faculty at
West Cancer Center. Our GYN Oncology fellowship provides one of the highest volume
surgical experiences in the country with a focus on minimally invasive techniques
to promote the best outcomes. We are proud to offer a very substantial clinical trial
portfolio and are a primary site for the Gynecologic Oncology Group Foundation (GOG-F).
Our participation in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Ovarian, Cervix
and Uterine Panels ensures that we are on the cutting edge of the latest findings
worldwide.
We are fortunate to have a clinical footprint of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
now at Regional One Heath and our trainees get exposure here and across town with
faculty partners at Fertility Associates of Memphis. The impressive research output
of this group has allowed our residents to be very competitive pursuing fellowship
and we are excited to be actively in the application process for our own fellowship
program.
Our faculty boast the only fellowship trained Pediatric Adolescent Gynecologist in
West Tennessee with a range of services that benefit this vulnerable population while
providing a wealth of experience to our trainees. Our Urogynecology program is led
by faculty that are routinely recognized by resident teaching awards at graduation.
We also provide expert Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery services to benefit
our population having such a high frequency of symptomatic fibroids. Our Center for
HPV And Dysplasia (CHAD) allows us to provide office-based colposcopy, LEEP and related
procedures by a consistent highly skilled team. We are privileged to have faculty
board-certified in Complex Family Planning who offer the full range of services.
We are perhaps most proud of our General Obstetrics and Gynecology Division which
provides comprehensive care on our Labor and Delivery Unit, Obstetrical Emergency
Department, GYN Procedure Clinic and in the gynecologic OR. We are fortunate that
this group provides amazing leadership for our residency program and student clerkship.
Additionally, they work side-by-side in partnership with our Midwifery group – the
only hospital-based program in our region.
Our diverse faculty of doctors, midwives and APPs are committed to the care of the
underserved with an eye towards closing the gap in health care disparities. We are
dedicated to excellence in the education of medical students, residents and fellows
and take great pride in their compassion, clinical skills and thought-provoking research.
We are grateful for the opportunity to introduce you to our team.
