Sandy is an alumnus of University of Missouri-Columbia, where she graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 1974. In 1982, she earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration Memphis State University. Sandy has practiced for over 40 years in burn rehabilitation and has attained numerous certifications across a spectrum of skills related to burns and physical rehabilitation, including upper extremity traumatic injuries, multiple segment amputees, crash injuries, spinal cord injuries, and work hardening capacity training. In 2016, Sandy was awarded the Barbara Knothe Burn Therapist Achievement Award from American Burn Association.
