The UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant program is applying for NAACLS Accreditation and students’ eligibility to take the ASCP board of certification examination may depend on whether or not the program achieves “serious applicant” status. The program is seeking accreditation from the NAACLS and intends to adhere to the following accreditation timeline:
- January 2023: submission of the Initial Application Packet to NAACLS and begin work on Self-Study.
- November 2024 (prior to graduation of first class): submission of Self-Study to NAACLS
- “Serious Applicant Status” granted: graduating students will become eligible for the
American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board of certification exam.
- Grant’s the students the same privileges and rights as an accredited program.
- “Serious Applicant Status” granted: graduating students will become eligible for the
American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board of certification exam.
- The NAACLS Site Visit will occur in early to mid 2026.
- The NAACLS Board of Directors issue accreditation awards/recommendations in the Spring
and Fall of each year:
- The program intends to receive their accreditation award from NAACLS in the Fall of 2026 or the Spring of 2027.
Tennessee Higher Education Commission Approval:
The UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant program received final approval from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission on July 28, 2022.
