Thank You!

March 24, 2020

Faculty, Staff, and Students,

During these difficult times we want to personally thank everyone for everything they are doing to keep us up and running so that we may carry out our essential tasks of:

  • Graduating our students on time, ready to enter the health care and health science workforce
  • Providing clinical care for those in need
  • Carrying on our vital research

We want to recognize some exceptional service:

  • Drs. Scott Strome, Jon McCullers, and David Schwartz, whose drive and vision led to the drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility on Tiger Lane.
  • Our students, who volunteered, trained, and then staffed the drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility.
  • Drs. Jay Ragain, Jeff Brooks, and the Dentistry faculty and staff, who opened the Dunn Dental Building to treat dental emergencies to keep these patients from needing to go the emergency room.
  • The Dentistry faculty and staff, who turned their 3D dental printer into a mechanism for making N95 masks and face shields to protect our faculty, staff, and students.
  • Drs. Mahul Amin, Neil Hayes, and their faculty and staff, who set up a high throughput COVID-19 testing facility with University Clinical Health in the Department of Pathology.
  • The faculty and staff of the Plough Center for Sterile Drug Delivery Solutions for setting up to manufacture essential medical sterilants and antiseptics.
  • Dr. Colleen Jonsson and the faculty and staff of the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory, who are working around the clock with the scientists of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop and test novel antiviral compounds to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 virus.
  • Dr. Sara Cross, who serves us on the Governor's COVID-19 Task Force.
  • The entire Office of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs led by Dr. Lori Gonzalez, who, in working with the college deans' offices and the Office of Information Technology, led by Mr. Dan Harder, have converted our entire didactic curriculum to remote delivery so that our students can graduate on time.
  • The essential personnel of Campus Police and Facilities for the ongoing performance of their duties during this time.

We want to thank all of you who are rising to the need and serving our vital mission.

With thanks,
