Description: Eleven month NIH funded and mentored training program in HIV prevention research
in Latin America for pre- and post-doctoral physician researchers from the US. All
trainees are required to have completed their core clinical clerkships before starting

Title: NIDDK T32 Medical Student Research Training Supplement
Description: The Medical Student Research Training (MSRT) program provides mentored support for
medical students interested in taking a year off from their medical school studies
to work in an academic research lab. This support is via a supplement to a training
grant (T32) in the appropriate area of research. A list of currently funded T32 program
locations is available. Provides the opportunity to pursue a mentored research project
to help solidify decisions to pursue a research career.
Time commitment: 1 year

Title: HHMI Medical Research Fellows Program
Description: The Medical Research Fellows Program enables medical, dental, and veterinary students
to spend a year conducting mentored basic, translational, or applied biomedical research.
The Program encourages the development of future medical-scientists and students should
have demonstrated an interest in and commitment to biomedical research (including
some previous laboratory research experience, but who are not enrolled in an MD/PhD
(or equivalent) program. Students select and work with a mentor to develop a basic,
translational, or applied biomedical research proposal. Both mentor selection and
the research proposal are key components of the fellowship application; working with
an HHMI scientist is encouraged but not required. Mentors can be at any academic or
nonprofit research institution in the United States (excluding the National Institutes
of Health and any other government agency) or at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus in
Ashburn, VA. There are special requirements for the Med Fellows Program at Janelia,
including a prescreening application deadline in early November.

Title: UTHSC Department of Medicine Medical Scholars Program
Description: The program provides UT medical students with the opportunity to do productive, publishable
research for a year (between 2nd and 3rd years of medical school) under the supervision
of an established mentor and mentorship committee with the goal of enhancing the research
training experience at UT and developing a pool of potential physician scientists.

Title: UTHSC Department of Otolaryngology Research Fellowships
Description: The program provides motivated UT medical students that would like to pursue a career
in Otolaryngology to work directly with our residents and faculty on various clinical
trials, clinical research, and basic science projects under the supervision of an
established mentor and mentorship committee with the goal of enhancing the research
training experience at UT and developing a pool of potential physician scientists.
We also have opportunities for fellows to shadow our surgeons in both the clinic and
the operating room. Fellows are encouraged to attend all resident teaching conferences,
journal clubs, and workshops.

Description: The Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship (CRF) provides support for one year of

Description: The MRSP is a comprehensive, year-long research enrichment program designed to attract

Description: "The Sarnoff Fellowship Program offers medical students enrolled in accredited U.S.

Description: The Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars supports U.S. university consortia
to provide collaborative, mentored global health research training opportunities in

Description: The Education & Advocacy Fellow (EAF) is a unique position for a physician-in-training
student to spend a year augmenting their formal medical training with the opportunity

Title: HVTN Research and Mentorship Program (RAMP) Scholar Grants for African American and
Hispanic Medical Students
Description: The development of a safe and effective HIV vaccine is one of the greatest biomedical
research challenges of our time. The HIV Vaccine Trials Network RAMP Scholar Program
provides African American and Latino medical students with opportunities to conduct
independent research while receiving mentoring, project and salary funding, training,
and professional development opportunities. Recipients work under the mentorship of
HVTN-affiliated investigators to conduct research projects in areas of basic, clinical,
behavioral, laboratory and social science.
Time commitment: 2 Tracks 8-16 week program (summer or 4th year) or 9-12 month long program
