The University of TN Health Science Center Department of Surgery is endeavoring to train surgical oncologist with high level technical skills and a commitment to pursuing new knowledge in the care of cancer patients.  

The department’s goal in pursuing a fellowship in complex general surgery oncology is to develop both skilled independent cancer practitioners as well as trained physician scientists.   

24-Month Fellowship

Fellowship training includes:

  • clinical rotations with surgeons
  • participation in the oversight and education of junior surgery residents
  • complex general surgical oncology
  • six months of research
  • actively participate in the educational community of the department and the division
  • direct contributor with the education experience of the medical students and surgical residents

More Information about the curriculum

Our hope is that surgeons who complete this program, whether they are clinically driven caring for cancer patients in our region or beyond, or pursuing academic research careers, will have the passion for cancer patients and their families with a goal toward improved outcomes and ultimate cure.
