Welcome to the Anesthesiology Residency Program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. Our program is the only Anesthesiology Residency Program in Memphis.

We offer three positions yearly for our 4-year categorical residency program. We provide our Residents with an environment that focuses on excellent patient care, professionalism, education and teamwork that will develop them into outstanding perioperative consultants.

Our program offers our trainees exposure to high acuity cases across the spectrum of Anesthesiology specialties, including trauma, cardiothoracic, obstetrics, critical care, regional and pain management. Our primary training site is at Regional One Health Medical Center, which is one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in the nation as well as a Center of Excellence for high risk Obstetric care. The Trauma hospital has a robust Acute Pain Service that provides Residents with the opportunity to perform a wide variety of regional nerve blocks and nerve catheters that will help them become experts at regional Anesthesia. Our Cardiothoracic and Neuro Anesthesia rotations are at Baptist Memorial Hospital that provides a perfect blend of exposure to a wide variety of complex cardiac and neuro procedures while in academic training. Our Pediatric Anesthesia rotations are at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, which has been ranked as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation. Residents also have the unique opportunity of rotating at the world famous St Jude’s Research Hospital for Children.

Our resident weekly didactic series is based on core Anesthesiology topics and include lectures, simulations, workshops and mock oral boards. In addition to the weekly didactics we also have weekly departmental conferences which includes visiting lectures, grand rounds and quality improvement. Our Residents have performed consistently well on the in training exams and continue to secure fellowship positions at some of the most nationally competitive programs.
