Research Conflict of Interest

Research Conflict of Interest (RCOI) falls under the UTHSC Chief Research Officer and the Office of Research.

All investigators involved in research related activities (whether funded or unfunded) must disclose potential conflicts of interest. Such disclosures occur at the time of proposal submission for grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, etc., and submission of research compliance protocols (e.g., IRB and IACUC). All members of the research team will get an automated email from iMedris notifying them of the need to fill out an electronic form specific to COI PART II or RCOI disclosures that are related to policies governing research. The form is short and easy to complete, taking less than 5 minutes.

An initial screen of the RCOI forms is done by the RCOI Officer, Dr. Mark Miller, and if a conflict is noted, it is forwarded to the RCOI Chair and Committee. The RCOI Committee is a standing committee with expertise in research, ethics, law and finance. It has been assembled to assist our faculty when RCOI management plans are needed. This committee is chaired by the interim Vice Chancellor for Research, Dr. Wesley Byerly.
