UCH is a not-for-profit, non-tax-supported group practice, which offers primary and specialty care across the Mid-South at competitive prices. UCH has more than 175 providers experiences in many disciplines spanning from plastic surgery and ophthalmology to providing care to critically ill and premature infants at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the Sheldon B. Korones Newborn Center at Regional One Health.

Relationship with UTHSC and the Division: 

UCH’s affiliation to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is unique in that providers have access to the latest treatments, specialized protocols and laboratories, as well as a wide range of professionals with advanced degrees in nursing, nutrition, pharmacology and more. The partnership’s vision is medical excellence for every patient as well as national leadership in medical innovation.

Dr. Sandeep Kumar Rajan, MD, MBBS, Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UTHSC, is the medical director of the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center at UCH, which is the only center of this kind for the adult population in Memphis. ​It is one of only three in Tennessee, and one of about 132 CDC designated centers of excellence for bleeding disorders in the country. UCH Hematology Clinic or HTC 258 is a comprehensive center with physicians, nurse educators, social workers, physical therapy, infusion services, Research and laboratory services under one roof. It is site for residents and fellows to rotate for Benign Hematology, Coagulation, and Hemophilia Rotations. It is also one of the sites for fellow's continuity clinic. Patients at this clinic are also accrued for Registry, Epidemiology, Biomarker/ Repository studies as well as Investigational agent studies in field of bleeding disorders, thrombosis and complement disorders. 

 

Memphis VA Medical Center (VAMC)

VAMC’s journey began in 1922 and it has proudly been improving the health of the men and women who have served our nation. It currently serves more than 196,000 veterans living across 53 counties in Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi and Northwest Arkansas areas. VAMC has for mission to honor America’s veterans by providing timely, quality care; outstanding customer service; dedicated continuous education to health care providers in training, and improvement in health care outcome through its research pipelines. The Hematology/Medical Oncology Service includes four Hematology/Oncology faculty, a nurse practitioner, oncology pharmacist,  two cancer care coordinators and four nurses dedicated to chemotherapy administration. Additional services dedicated to our patients include nutrition, psychology, palliative care, radiation oncology and surgical oncology.  Most oncology patients are managed through multidisciplinary tumor conferences. Multiple IRB approved protocols include research into health care disparity, hepatocellular carcinoma, prostate cancer, health care management. Patients are offered participation in an expanding platform of clinical trials.

Relationship with UTHSC and the Division: 

VAMC has been a partner of strength, and it is an integral part of UTHSC education and research programs. VAMC is a major center for fellow education with continuity clinics and consultation rotations, palliative care and pharmacology rotations. Medical students and residents regularly rotate through clinics and consultation services. UTHSC faculty members staff nearly all of Memphis VA Medical center.

Dr. Alva B. Weir III, MD, Professor of Medicine UTHSC and Section Chief of Hematology Oncology at VAMC, is the program director of the UTHSC Hematology and Oncology Division Fellowship Program.

 

Regional One Health (ROH)

Regional One Health is the oldest hospital in Tennessee with a history of serving the region’s sickest patients. ROH provides services to residents from all backgrounds in a 150-mile radius from Memphis medical district, where its main campus is located, the Regional Medical Center. ROH proudly has the expertise, research orientation, and commitment to innovation.

Relationship with UTHSC and the Division: 

The Regional Medical Center, at the heart of the medical district, serves as one of the largest medical and surgical teaching sites for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, with more than half the doctors in Tennessee receiving all or some of their training at the Regional Medical Center. The academic partnership between ROH and UT Health Science Center includes the UT Regional One Physicians group, the largest teaching physician group in the Mid-South with the mission to improve outcomes through research and innovation. UTHSC faculty members staff all of Regional One Health.

Dr. Patricia Adams-Graves, MD and Dr. Ugochi Ogu, MD are UT regional One Physicians in the hematology/Oncology specialty. Dr. Adams-Graves is a professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Health Science Center. She is also the Director of the Diggs-Kraus Sickle Cell Center at ROH. Dr. Ogu is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Health Science Center.

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is an integrated, not-for-profit healthcare system based in Memphis, with locations and partners across the Mid-South. MLH’s mission is to collaborate with patients and their families to be the leader in providing high quality, cost-effective patient-and-family-centered care. MLH has four Memphis Metro adult hospitals, including Methodist University Hospital, Methodist North Hospital, Methodist South Hospital and Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.

Relationship with UTHSC and the Division: 

MLH and UTHSC partnership was established in 2002, making MLH the principal adult private hospital in Shelby County. Through this partnership, MLH has become an essential partner in training the next generation of medical professionals, and it brings cutting-edge research and treatment to patients. UTHSC faculty members staff nearly all of Methodist University Hospital.

Dr. Neil Hayes, Division Chief at UTHSC Hematology and Oncology, leads the Medical Oncology team at Methodist University Hospital. Dr. Amit Correa and Dr. Saurin Chokshi, both UTHSC faculty, complete the team. Two additional UTHSC faculties in the division of Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Yasser Khaled and Dr. Brion Randolph, lead the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Methodist University Hospital.

In conjunction with UTHSC, West Cancer Center and Research Institute provides training and fellowships to the next generation of world-class hematologists and oncologists through a number of academic programs.

St Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world-wide leader in understanding, treating and defeating childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It strives to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.

Relationship with UTHSC and the Division: 

St. Jude has a close relationship with UTHSC, as many St. Jude patients will be seen by UT faculty members. The Integrated Biomedical Sciences Program at UTHSC also allows students to shape their doctoral research education in partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dr. Neil Hayes, Division Chief at UTHSC Hematology and Oncology, is an Adjunct Faculty at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in the Computational Biology Department. Several research collaborations are established between members of the division and St. Jude, including a multidisciplinary effort aiming to develop tools and therapies to cure fibrolamellar carcinoma, a rare liver cancer.
