Data Science Track | Master of Science in Epidemiology Program

What is It?

The Data Science track within the Masters of Science in Epidemiology Program trains students to acquire, analyze and interpret large observational datasets. The three core elective courses will familiarize students with the basics of data science and with clinical data. Students are expected to have good programming skills, and can choose their electives to gain an understanding of applied clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.

How is the Data Science Track Different?

The Data Science Track emphasizes statistical and analytical skills needed to work with large observational datasets. Incoming students are expected to be more comfortable with computer programming relative to the other two tracks.

Students receive training in:

  • Data Science
  • Biostatistics
  • Applied Statistics (Categorical data, Linear Regression, Mixed models, Survival Analysis)
  • Epidemiology

With optional training in:

  • Clinical Trial Methods
  • Genetic Epidemiology
  • Epidemiology of Childhood Diseases

What are the Minimum Degree Requirements for this Program?

  • 36 credit hours total
  • 21credit hours in core required courses (includes 6 hrs for Master's thesis or research project)
  • 7 credit hours in core elective courses
  • 8 credit hours in elective courses

Full-time students (9 credit hours per semester or more) usually finish in 2 years.
