What is Health Promotion?

Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health (World Health Organization, 1984). The field of Health Promotion brings together individuals from a range of disciplinary backgrounds to assess issues and develop strategies and solutions.

Our health promotion faculty members are trained in numerous areas essential to health promotion, including:

  • Program Evaluation
  • Adult Education
  • Qualitative Research
  • Statistics and Measurement
  • Study Design
  • Database Management
  • Exercise Physiology

Our faculty members collaborate with health professionals, local providers, and community organizations, on a wide range of projects in areas such as:

  • Maternal/Child Health
  • Tobacco Control
  • Youth Violence
