Paxton V. Dickson, MD, FACS, currently serves as an associate professor of surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and surgical oncologist for UT Methodist Physicians. His clinical focus is in the treatment of patients with hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastric and endocrine tumors and disease processes. He currently serves as co-director of Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary and Endocrine Neoplasia multidisciplinary tumor boards. Dr. Dickson joined the UT Methodist Physicians after completing fellowships in surgical oncology and endocrine surgery at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Since that time he has worked to develop and lead efforts to offer optimal multidisciplinary management for patients with gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary and endocrine cancers. He serves on the Thyroid Cancer Panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and is an active member in the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Association for Academic Surgery, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is the recipient of several teaching awards from students and residents at UTHSC. Dr. Dickson is actively involved in clinical research and his work has been presented at several national/international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Dickson’s research is focused on clinical outcomes for patients with hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastrointestinal, and neuroendocrine malignancies.  He has a particular interest in healthcare disparities research as it applies to the Memphis community and West Tennessee.
